Bio
Raised in Chicago with a background in jazz and contemporary music, Genna moved to LA in 2011 to attend USC's Thornton School of Music. Since then, she has studied bass with Alphonso Johnson (Weather Report, Santana, Phil Collins), appeared as a musician on GLEE, and performed around Los Angeles with artists spanning across many different genres. In 2016, Genna played her first international tour with YouTube star Sam Tsui, opening for DNCE in Mexico and playing for over 7,000 people. She has been Liv Slingerland's bass player for over five years, and during that time has performed twice at San Jose's Jazz and Blues Fest and played numerous packed shows in Northeast Los Angeles' Play Like A Girl scene. Most recently, she traveled the midwest with rising artist Lucy Arnell, who was tour managed by Bob Nastanovich (Pavement, Silver Jews).
Genna’s versatility as a player is showcased throughout the wide array of studio recordings she has appeared on. She played bass on two of Liv Slingerland EPs, the first of which was engineered by Keith Armstrong (Green Day, Rebelution) and the second of which was produced and engineered by Mike Pepe (Taking Back Sunday). Her bass lines on Leila Milki’s album “Promises” is an example of her ability to incorporate elements of world music. In addition, she played bass on the upcoming EP for soul/rock artist Jen Awad.
Currently, Genna is teaching private lessons and continuing to perform around the Los Angles area. She is available for live performances, recording sessions, video shoots, and tours.
